WHERE IS THE MAIN ENTRANCE TO THE NATURE RESERVE?

There are two entrances. The preferred entrance is directly opposite 129 Peggy Vera Road, Kibler Park. This is the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve Entrance Precinct. There is secure, free parking available.

 

WHAT ARE THE OPEN HOURS OF THE RESERVE?

In summer the reserve gates open at 06h00 and close at 18h00. In winter the hours are 07h00 to 17h00. The reserve is open 365 days a year.

WHAT IS THE ENTRANCE FEE?

Entrance to the reserve is FREE.

       NO VEHICLES OR BICYCLES

NO PETS allowed at all.

NO JOBS

NO CAMPING – NO ACCOMMODATION

NO NUDITY

NO ALCOHOL

NO DRUGS

WALKING IS THE ONLY ACTIVITY

IS IT SAFE TO WALK IN THE RESERVE?

Walking in the reserve is generally safe but is at your own risk. Wisdom dictates that one should take reasonable precautions such as walking in small groups or pairs. There are other safety precautions to be considered:

Walk with a friend, or a group

Be alert when walking or running in the reserve

Tell someone where you are going, what time you left home and when you expect to be back. On your return report back to that person/s

Maintain a charged cell phone and take note of emergency numbers

Keep to the trails which are well marked

Wear sensible walking or hiking shoes

Take and use a hat and sunblock

Take a small first aid kit

Be aware of the weather conditions and avoid strenuous walking on very hot days

Always have sufficient water

ARE BRAAIS AND PICNICS ALLOWED IN THE RESERVE?

The simple answer is NO. There is a braai and picnic area at the entrance precinct. You will need to bring your own braai equipment

ARE THERE HORSE TRAILS IN THE RESERVE?

Currently there are no horse trails in the reserve. Scientific studies have shown that the horses are responsible for too much damage to the eco-systems in the reserve and there is a process to have them removed.

ARE THERE GUIDED WALKS IN THE RESERVE?

Guided walks can be arranged for a group of 10 people or more at a cost of R20 per person, at least one week’s notice to be given.

The walks depart from the Entrance Precinct situated in Peggy Vera Road, Kibler Park.

All walkers are led by experienced guides and offer an excellent opportunity for visitors to learn more of the history of the reserve and view the flora and fauna in their natural surroundings. Walks begin at 07:30 year round.

Note:  

All hikers must ensure that they carry sufficient water and use adequate sun protection, even in winter, and they should wear sensible walking shoes.

IS ACCESS TO THE RESERVE PERMITTED AT NIGHT?

Night walking in the reserve is NOT permitted. Occasionally there are organised events inside the reserve at night. These events and the costs are posted in the monthly programme on the website.

ARE LARGE GROUPS ALLOWED TO ENTER THE RESERVE?

Large groups may need special permission from Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, the contact number is 011 712 6600. It is NOT permissible for event organisers to profit from the reserve and prosecution could result.
